Here you can turn the layout tabs on and off via the Ribbon. You can also type options at the command prompt to bring up the Options dialog box. By default, a Model tab and several named layout tabs are displayed at the bottom-left corner of the drawing area.

If the Model and layout tabs are not visible, right-click in the drawing area and choose Options. Click OK. Turn on the missing tabs and panels Right-click anywhere on the ribbon and use the Show Tabs and Show Panels menus to turn on the desired tabs or panels. Currently, up to tabs are allowed in a drawing including the Model Space tab. So tabs can be used for layouts.

Once this limit is reached, you will receive a warning message. Please note that for better performance in AutoCAD, keep the amount of layout tabs in any single drawing to a minimum. The Model and Layout tab are displayed inline with the status bar. In the Properties palette, select Standard Scale, and then select a new scale from the list. The scale you choose is applied to the viewport.

A layout is a 2D working environment for creating drawing sheets. The area within a layout is called paper space, where you can add a title block, display scaled views of model space within layout viewports, and create tables, schedules, notes, and dimensions for your drawing.

Click to place the layout viewport on the layout. To adjust the size, shape, and border of the new layout viewport, select the layout viewport and click a size grip one of the corners of the viewport object. To move the layout viewport, click the move grip at the center of the viewport and click a new location. Alternatively, you can use the Move command. To change the display scale, click the triangular scale grip near the center of the layout viewport.
